About Pilates

Pilates focuses on the alignment and functionality of the body, and works with great efficiency at bringing the body and mind into better balance. It is defined by its creator, Joseph Pilates, as the "art of controlled movement" and is based upon six principles:

  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Centering
  • Flow
  • Precision
  • Breathing

Our instructors are well-versed in the classical approach to the Pilates method as well as more contemporary approaches. They bring a lifetime of studying movement to their work and have experience working with many different populations, including children, seniors, people working with specific rehabilitation issues, new and expectant mothers, athletes, and those generally looking for more strength, flexibility, control, and ease of movement.
