Alison Williams, MA

Pilates + Yoga Instructor

Alison Williams is a certified Pilates and yoga instructor with over 14 years of teaching experience. From the age of three, she began her movement studies with her mother, dancing and practicing yoga. She holds a Masters Degree in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and received her BA in History at Brown University in 1998, where she was also awarded the Weston Fine Arts Award in Dance. After graduating from Brown, she moved to New York City and studied and danced with many masters of the craft. Eventually, she recognized that performance was not ultimately what was important to her about her studies, and around this time, she was lucky enough to discover Ana Forrest. She completed her Forrest yoga teacher training in 2001 in Chicago. Alison went on to complete her Pilates certification at BodyTonic Gymnasium in Brooklyn in 2005 and began teaching Pilates and yoga full time.

Eager to deepen her understanding of the relationship between body, mind, spirit, art, discipline, and practice, she moved to San Francisco in 2006 and received her Master's Degree in Somatic Psychology. She completed a second yoga teacher training certification at Laughing Lotus in San Francisco, as well as a rehabilitation certification with Lizz Roman.

Alison moved to Seattle in anticipation of the birth of her first child who arrived in March 2015! She has continued to teach Pilates, yoga and dance throughout this lifetime of study, and has worked with many different populations, including people dealing with serious rehabilitation issues, expectant and new mothers, the elderly, athletes, and children working with developmental issues. She continues to be fascinated with questions of embodiment and strives through her work to inspire people to have richer experiences of their own sense of aliveness.

Nicole Pieratt

Pilates Instructor

Philosophy
I am most inspired by the way Pilates develops and deepens the connection between our minds and our bodies. I have always loved to exercise and challenge my body, but it took surviving breast cancer to shift my focus from working hard to working smart and taking care of my body in the process. I work with my clients to change ingrained movement patterns by taping into all the their senses. I believe Pilates has the ability to allow our bodies to work smarter and more efficiently ultimately enabling us to enjoy all the activities we love for years to come.

Client Base
I believe every body can benefit from Pilates. I enjoy tailoring challenging sessions for my clients based on their particular movement history. I have worked with people recovering from knee, hip, ankle and shoulder injuries as well as spinal issues and back pain. I like finding a balance between healing and strengthening for the best possible outcome. My favorite part of teaching is helping my clients discover and feel a difference in their bodies that carries over into their everyday lives. My specialty is getting the brain on board so that the work we do in the studio results in both a mental and physical shift leading to an overall improved quality of life.

Experience and Credentials
I am certified as a Vitality Pilates Instructor; Pilates for MS Advanced Training; received training in Brain-based Education for Movement Professionals, and Volunteer weekly at Swedish Hospital teaching MS patients and patients with neurological disorders.

Caitlin Fennessy, MA

Pilates Instructor

Caitlin Fennessy recently moved to Ballard from New York City where she received her certification at the Kane School with the inimitable Kelly Kane. She brings the kinetic, high-energy, sarcasm and creativity of her native town into each of her sessions - invigorating, challenging and encouraging each of her clients so they achieve the personal results they seek to glean from Pilates. A lifelong athlete, Cait found and instantly became a hooked and firm believer in the Pilates method while at Hamilton College in New York.

During her training, she gleaned extraordinary and unique education and experience working with "special populations" and the biomechanics of the Pilates method, and this has become of paramount importance to her in her teaching. A hands-on, welcoming and encouraging instructor, she focuses not only on ensuring her clients receive a tremendous, satisfyingly challenging, creative and enjoyable workout, but also finds great satisfaction in developing modifications to address musculo-skeletal issues that arise in the upper extremity, lower extremity and trunk.

Her greatest pride and pleasure comes from motivating her clients to knock down the barriers they put up for themselves and seeing them glow with pride as they work through the challenges of a workout and accomplish the individual goals they set together.
